One week remains in Truman-themed photo contest

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo — Secretary of State Jason Kander issued a brief release today, reminding press and Missouri citizens that the deadline for entering photos in the “Remembering Harry” Blue Book photo contest is a week away.

Anyone interested must submit photos, which fall under the three categories provided in the contest, by email or mail by 5 p.m. July 26.  Winning photos will be published, with credit to the photographer, in the 2013-2014 Official Manual for the State of Missouri, an SOS document with information on all state employees.

Commonly referred to as the “Blue Book,” it will be published at the end of the year and it and any winning photos are permanently submitted into the Missouri State Archives. Citizens can visit the Secretary of State webpage for the contest for more details.

The three categories designated for the contest, all deriving from quotes from President Harry S. Truman. Categories include:

  • ‘Carry the battle to them,’ for photos of sporting events and competitions around the state.
  • ‘The most peaceful thing in the world is plowing a field,’ for photos of Missouri agriculture and natural beauty.
  • ‘I don’t believe in little plans,” for photos of unique celebrations and parades throughout the state of Missouri.
