Missouri Cannabis Industry Association announces first business seminar of 2019

Press release

The Missouri Cannabis Industry Association announces its first business seminar of the new year following the overwhelming passage of Amendment 2, now Article XIV of the Missouri state Constitution by Missouri voters last November 6. The seminar will take place at the St. Charles Opera House, 311 North Main Street, in St. Charles on Saturday, February 23, from 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Speakers at this event include Dr. Randall Williams, Director of the Department of Health and Senior Services. The DHSS is charged with administering the Missouri Medical Marijuana Program and will decide who will be licensed to cultivate, process and dispense cannabis to Missouri patients. MCIA is working with DHSS to draft the regulations which will govern the operation of the medical marijuana industry.

Other speakers include Certified Public Accountant Paul Bocci. Mr. Bocci is a member of the New Approach Missouri Amendment 2 Campaign Committee. He will address the problems presented for medical marijuana dispensary operators by IRS regulation 280 e, a provision which prohibits deducting business expenses in businesses which dispense medical cannabis.

Other speakers will include dispensary operators from Illinois. Under Article XIV, Missouri patients can be licensed to cultivate up to a half-dozen marijuana plants for themselves in locked, secured facilities.

MCIA, formed four years ago, is Missouri’s first organization dedicated to the medical marijuana industry. Last year, MCIA held successful business seminars in St. Louis in the Spring and in Kansas City in the Fall.

Tickets to the seminar, which include a social hour with heavy hors d’oeuvres and a cash bar, are $75 in advance until February 17, and $100 thereafter.
