Governor to issue executive order for School Safety Task Force

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – Gov. Mike Parson will sign an executive order creating a school safety task force to help make Missouri schools more secure.

Teaming up with Lt. Gov. Mike Kehoe, the Department of Public Safety, the Department of Mental Health, the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, the Center for Education, and the Missouri School Boards’ Association, Parson hopes to develop a statewide strategic plan for school safety.

According to Parson, the plan will cover and establish all the safety precautions needed for Missouri schools and school districts. The strategic plan will identify the best practices for school safety and help adapt them to make Missouri specific recommendations.

The plan will also recognize any additional resources provided by the Center for Education and Safety to ensure security and preparedness.

Director Sandy Karsten of the Department of Public Safety, Director Mark Stringer of Department of Mental Health, Commissioner Margie Vandeven DESE, Executive Director Melissa Randol and Senior Policy Advisor to the Center for Education Safety Paul Fennewald will all be in attendance for the executive order signing.
