Patty Lewis launches 2020 bid for HD 25

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A Kansas City native who has spent nearly two decades in the health care industry is making a bid to represent her community in the Missouri House.

Patty Lewis, a Democrat, announced on Monday her candidacy to be the state representative for HD 25. The seat is currently held by Democratic Rep. Greg Razer who is running for state Senate.

“I have been advocating my entire career for people in my community, from the most vulnerable patients in the hospital to the teams I served as an executive,” Lewis said in a statement. “Service was instilled in me at a young age and has been a lifelong value which I hold dear.”

Born and raised in Kansas City, Lewis graduated from Rockhurst University with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. She has worked in a variety of roles in the health care industry, from a registered nurse in critical care and intensive care units to a Cerner executive. In total, Lewis has more than 18 years of health care experience.

Lewis is not new to the political world. Her father, Jim White, made an unsuccessful bid for HD 55 in 2012 and the 4th Congressional District in 2014.

“It is my passion for this city and the future of our state that is driving me to run for office. State government is extremely important and has an immediate impact on our daily lives and those of our children and our neighbors. We deserve better and we can do better,” she said. “We need leaders who listen to and speak up for their constituents, not special interests.”

“I believe that Jefferson City needs smart, strong, experienced leaders who will serve and advocate for the people of Missouri. I believe that my leadership skills and health care background uniquely position me to lead Missouri forward and promote a better future for all Missourians,” said Lewis. “Health care is a right, not a privilege. No one should have to choose accessible, affordable, quality health care over providing basic needs for their family. We need leaders in Jefferson City who aren’t afraid to speak up and fight for quality, affordable health care, and sensible gun legislation. We also need leaders who will protect equal rights for all including rights for women, workers, minorities, and LGBTQ while ensuring we uphold a transparent and ethical government.”

Lewis will hold a kick-off fundraiser on July 30 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at The Well in Kansas City.
