JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. — The Missouri Health Facilities Review Committee worked its way through several agenda items and sent a set of proposed rule changes to the Secretary of State’s Office at its recent meeting.
On Monday, the committee met for one of its six yearly certificate of need (CON) meetings. Beyond the traditional agenda items, the members of the committee approved several rule changes, which were mostly aimed toward cleaning up current statutes.
Through an expedited application, Delta South Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation was able to expand the number of skilled nursing facility (SNF) beds by 20. The facility, which opened in August 2017 — has been attempting to increase its licensed SNF beds for more than a year — attempts which were mostly unsuccessful for the relatively new facility.
On January 8, 2018, a CON application by Delta South to add 25 SNF beds to the facility was approved for just three. Those beds have been licensed. On May 7, 2018, a CON application to add 15 SNF beds to the facility was denied.
On Monday, the committee approve Delta South’s application to purchase 20 SNF beds from Loch Haven Senior Living in Macon. Delta South boasts in its application an average occupancy of 96.4 percent for the past six consecutive quarters and no Class I patient care deficiencies during the past 18 months.
Based on state statutes and the facilities occupancy rate for the time it has been open, Delta South would have automatically gotten the bed increase on July 15.
The committee also approved AABHA Retirement Center in New Florence to establish a 30-bed residential care facility. Excelsior Springs Hospital in Clay County was given approval to acquire a robotic surgery system, as well.
The next full meeting is scheduled for September 22.
