LaFaver to step aside from HDVC Chairmanship

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. — Kansas City Democrat Jeremy LaFaver, who chairs the House Democrat Victory Committee overseeing House races throughout the state, told The Missouri Times this morning that he will be stepping aside as chairman of the HDVC.

LaFaver was arrested Sunday on an active warrant in connection with a failure to appear in court in relation to an expired license plate. He was then found with a small amount of marijuana as well as marijuana paraphernalia. He is currently out on a $310 bond.

LaFaver said he was not asked to step down, but instead approached Minority Floor Leader Jacob Hummel and asked to step aside himself. Hummel, as ranking House Democrat, selects the chairman for the committee and The Missouri Times has learned he does not plan on reinstating LaFaver in the future.

“The goal of electing Democrats to the House is too important to the middle class men and women of Missouri for my personal embarrassment to become a distraction,” LaFaver said in a statement.

The Missouri Times will be updating this story with input from Democrats across the state on LaFaver’s future in the party. Stay tuned for updates.
