Unsicker selected for SLC’s Center for the Advancement of Leadership Skills

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – State Rep. Sarah Unsicker will work with and learn from leaders from 10 other southern states as they participate in a program that is meant to help state officials enhance their leadership knowledge. Unsicker is one of 25 officials to be selected to participate in the Southern Legislative Conference’s Center for the Advancement of Leadership Skills (CALS) that will take place Oct. 5-9 in Little Rock, Arkansas.

The CALS program is offered by the Southern Legislative Conference (SLC), which is part of the Council of State Governments (CSG). The program is meant to enhance the leadership abilities of participants by improving competencies in communication, conflict resolution, consensus building and critical decision-making. The program is part of an ongoing effort by CSG and SLC to promote experience in state government and provide nonpartisan forums for state officials to share ideas.

Unsicker is one of the emerging and mid-career legislative, executive and judicial branch state leaders who will participate in the program. Ultimately, CALS is meant to provide the public with highly skilled, educated and confident state leaders equipped to be effective decision makers.

“I am honored to have this incredible opportunity and excited to meet and work with government officials from other states in our region. This forum for the sharing of information and ideas with my counterparts will help me to continue my growth as a legislator and allow me to better serve the needs of the people of my district,” said Unsicker, D-Shrewsbury.

The 2019 CALS program will convene October 5-9 in Little Rock, Arkansas, and the nearby Winthrop Rockefeller Institute on Petit Jean Mountain. Scholarships are provided to cover the cost of tuition, travel, lodging and meals.
