MEC takes no further action on Price’s late finance reports

The Missouri Ethics Commission (MEC) found Rep. Wiley Price IV filed multiple finance disclosure reports months after the due date and shelled out more the $2,000 in late fees.

As such, the commission decided to take no further action against the freshman lawmaker.

According to the consent order issued last week, Price, a Democrat, filed three reports late: the 30 Day After Primary Report, due on Sept. 9, 2018, was filed on Dec. 31, 2018; the October 2018 Quarterly Report, due on Oct. 15, 2018, was filed on Dec. 31, 2018; and the 30 Day After General Election Report, due on Dec. 6, 2018, was filed Jan. 2, 2019.

In total, $2,200 was paid in late fees.

With the reports filed and late fees paid, the MEC issued a letter stating “it will take no further action” on the violations.

Price’s campaign committee, Committee to Elect Wiley Price IV, which was previously named Wiley Price for State Representative, was named in the MEC complaint as well.

The order comes not long after the commission fined Sen. Jamilah Nasheed, a Democrat, for failing to report a few campaign donations.

Nasheed said the mistake stemmed from a “clerical error” and was not done intentionally. The commission imposed a $2,500 fine on Nasheed but lowered it to $250 if paid within 45 days of the order with no additional campaign finance laws in the next two years.
