Bill Hardwick launches bid for HD 122

Bill Hardwick (PROVIDED).

WAYNESVILLE, Mo. —Missouri attorney and Iraq War veteran, Bill Hardwick launched his campaign for Missouri HD 122 on September 28 with a kickoff rally.  Hardwick is seeking the Republican nomination to replace Rep. Steve Lynch, who is unable to run for re-election due to term limits.

“I’m running as a conservative,” Hardwick said.  “To me, what we are trying to conserve is individual liberty.  How you live your life, how you spend your money, how you raise your kids, what goals and aspirations you have, and what conclusions you draw about God are up to you.  In a free society, those decisions must be left to the individual.”

The campaign event was held at Total Body Fitness in St. Robert to highlight a campaign theme of promoting small business. The candidate spoke on the risk and responsibility that comes with entrepreneurship. Hardwick stated that the state tax and regulatory structure should make it easier for businesses to prosper and hire more employees.

“It’s not that we favor no taxes—but rather oppose taxes that are prohibitive and burdensome and counterproductive for those trying to escape poverty and better themselves economically,” he said. “I believe regulations should make sense, be clearly defined and be minimally intrusive.”

Another major theme of the campaign is supporting policies that support veterans.

“Veterans give up their own freedom, security, and comfort — sacrificing time with their own families, sometimes sacrificing their lives, sometimes becoming permanently injured because they love this country and the people in it,” Hardwick said.

Hardwick’s mother is a public-school teacher and he states that he will support prioritizing education funding and resourcing quality education.

“It is also incumbent upon us to be judicious stewards of the state’s finances so that our state pension systems remain solvent and we can have confidence our state programs can achieve their core goals in future years,” said Hardwick.

Hardwick is a lifelong resident of Pulaski County, Missouri. He has served in Missouri Army National Guard as an enlisted soldier and engineer officer and currently serves as the executive officer of the 1140th Engineer Battalion.

HE earned his Juris Doctor from the University of Missouri School of Law in Columbia. After law school, he worked as an Assistant Prosecuting Attorney in Pulaski County, Special Assistant United States Attorney, and Supervisory Attorney Advisor as an Army civilian.  He has taught courses in political science, business and law as an adjunct professor.

Hardwick lives with his wife and their four children in Waynesville, Missouri.
