ST. LOUIS, Mo. — Missouri Attorney General Eric Schmitt announced today an indictment for assault on a federal officer, obtained through the Safer Streets Initiative in St. Louis.
On October 16, 2019, a federal grand jury indicted Erron Williams with one count of assault on a federal officer, one count of brandishing a firearm in furtherance of a crime of violence, and two counts of unlawful possession of a firearm by a previously convicted felon. The indictment alleges that on June 12, 2019, St. Louis County police investigated an incident involving Williams’ possession of two firearms. The following day, the defendant brandished one of those firearms at several federal law enforcement officers. Williams had previously been convicted of one or more crimes punishable by a term of imprisonment exceeding one year.
A motion filed with the court alleges that, on June 12, 2019, M.B. reported to police that the defendant, the father of her five year old child, had threatened to kill her and himself, possessed two guns, including a 9mm Diamondback pistol, and shot at her, all in the presence of her child. When police processed M.B.’s home, they found evidence that a firearm had been fired at M.B.’s home, consistent with M.B.’s statement to police.
The motion further alleges that, on June 13, 2019, St. Louis County police were attempting to arrest the defendant for the above-described incident. Due to the threats the defendant made and the fact that he was believed to still be in possession of a firearm, specialized units assisted with the arrest attempt. The motion alleges that, when police officers attempted to take the defendant into custody, he immediately began running. According to the motion, while running, the defendant turned his body and pointed a gun in the direction of officers. An officer fired his gun, striking the defendant once. The motion alleges that the defendant was found in possession of the 9mm Diamondback pistol, which was loaded with seven rounds, and that the defendant was found in possession of various other rounds of ammunition.
Attorney General Schmitt announced last month 58 indictments have been obtained through the Safer Streets Initiative, with the numbers consistently increasing.
All persons charged with a crime are presumed innocent until proven guilty. Criminal charges are not evidence of a crime.
