Game Changers: Anne Marie Moy

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo – Working in public relations wasn’t what Anne Marie Moy first set out to do upon graduating the University of Mississippi in 1994.  The broadcast journalism major went out into the workforce.

“When I was in college I did a lot of internships, and even worked in the university,” Moy said. “I always enjoyed the public relations side of things”.

Moy has worked in the public relations arena for 20 years now, working on her own with special interest groups for the last seven years.

“Early on in my career I worked with a lot of businesses” Moy said.

Since then, Moy has moved on to work with nonprofits like the American Lung association.

“I am particular about the things I choose,” Moy said. “I do feel good about everything that I have and am working on.”

One of the big influences in Moy’s career was a chance in 2007 and 2008 to work and learn with Steve Allen, who she described as a preeminent media trainer.

“I was so fortunate to have the time to work with him and get the training he had to offer,” Moy said. “He helped me become an effective clear concise advocate for a cause, a lot of work went into that.  its not as easy as it looks.”

Moy also takes the time to speak with different news outlets to get a message across.

“Certainly a key to strong media relations is having relationships with reporters and editors,” Moy said.  “I try to make it to the capitol and sit down with key reporters.

“My job is to make their job easier, while at the same time serving the best interest of my client.”

Moy is currently working with three organizations: Grow Missouri, Better Together, and Teach Great. Better Together is the youngest of the three, forming back this past Fall.  Part of the Missouri Project for a better economy, Better Together is a research and study project.

Moy is also working on a soon to be announced project that she could not comment on.
