Press Release: Candidate Filing Remains Open for House District 27 for the 2014 Election

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo – Secretary of State Jason Kander today announced that candidates seeking to file for state representative in District 27 may continue to do so until 5 p.m. on Friday, March 28, 2014. Under Missouri law, if a candidate withdraws his or her name within two business days of the March 25th filing deadline, candidate filing extends until the following Friday.

Currently, 429 candidates have filed for state and federal offices for the 2014 primary election.

This year, candidates filed with the secretary of state’s office to run for state auditor, all eight of Missouri’s U.S. House of Representatives seats, the 17 even-numbered state Senate districts, all 163 House seats and various judicial seats. Candidates for county offices must file with their local county clerk or election board for those races.

In total, 237 Republican candidates, 163 Democratic candidates, 20 Libertarian candidates, and nine Constitution candidates have filed for office. Candidates that filed on the first day at the secretary of state’s office drew a number to determine the order in which their name will appear on the primary ballot. Candidates that filed after the first day are placed on the ballot in the order they filed. All candidates are listed in ballot order here.

Missouri’s primary election is on Tuesday, August 5, 2014. The deadline to register to vote in the August primary is July 9, 2014. The general election is Tuesday, November 4, 2014, and the deadline to register to vote for that election is October 8, 2014.

Eligible Missourians can register to vote or update their voting address by completing a form on Kander’s website.
