Press Release: Senate supports colleague on Public Service Commission appointment

JEFFERSON CITY – A former member of the Missouri State Senate has received a great honor from Missouri’s top official. This week, the Senate gave approval to the governor’s appointee former Sen. Scott Rupp, R-Wentzville, to the Missouri Public Service Commission (PSC). Senate Leader Tom Dempsey, R-St. Charles, said he was happy to sponsor an appointee who is not only one of his distinguished colleagues, but also highly qualified for the position.

“Sen. Rupp has demonstrated he is a leader who is held in high regard in the Senate,” said Dempsey. “He has worked hard to make a positive impact on our state since he started his career in government more than a decade ago. While he will be missed in the Senate, I know Sen. Rupp will serve the PSC with the same dedication he has shown in the Legislature.”

Rupp began serving in Jefferson City when he was elected to the House of Representatives in 2002. He has represented his constituents in the western part of St. Charles County in the Senate since 2006. During his time in the Senate, Rupp has taken the lead on many issues facing the state, including last year’s solution to the then-insolvent Second Injury Fund. Rupp also has shown great initiative with regard to modernizing Missouri’s insurance laws. He is dedicated to supporting and advocating for families who have children with special needs.

“I am looking forward to this new challenge,” said Rupp. “I am so grateful I will be able to continue serving not only the people of St. Charles, but also the great state of Missouri.”

Rupp resigned his position on the Senate Thursday. He will begin his new position with the PSC on Friday. Rupp will serve a six-year term on the commission.
