Alderman Christine Lieber has announced her candidacy for Mayor of Sunset Hills. Branding herself as the “pro-resident candidate,” Lieber is running on her track record as a member of the city’s Board of Aldermen. In addition to being elected as Alderman Ward 2, Lieber was appointed to the Economic Development Committee as well as the Police Advisory Board. Lieber’s term has been noted for her efforts to promote fiscal responsibility, inclusion, and increased government transparency.
Lieber’s no-nonsense and tenacious approach to policy issues has elevated her to be a respected leader within the board. Her efforts to reign in wasteful spending and avoidable infrastructure failures have earned her the support from 5 of the 8 aldermen in her quest for mayorship: Randy Epperson-Ward 3, Fred Daues-Ward 4, Cathy Friedmann-Ward 3, Ann McMunn-Ward 1, and herself — as well as the endorsement of State Representative David Gregory.
“As alderman, I have worked hard to get real results for our community. I was instrumental in setting up a better monitoring system of city expenses and have kept an open-door policy to ensure the voices of residents are heard. My plan as mayor is to expand two-way communication with the public. Voters deserve to be informed and leaders need to be held accountable to the will of the people.”
A graduate of Lindbergh High School, Lieber has been an active member of Sunset Hills since her childhood. Today, she is a local Sunset Hills Shelter Insurance Agency Owner and committee member of Guns N Hoses and BackStoppers, Inc., a nonprofit dedicated to supporting the families of first responders who gave their lives in the line of duty. She also holds membership with the Rotary Club of Sunset Hills & Crestwood and with the National Association of Professional Women and is a member of Concordia Lutheran Church in Kirkwood, MO.
“To me, community involvement isn’t about accolades and recognition. It’s about investing in your neighbors, your local organizations, and your children’s future. I want the next generation to inherit a world that is full of hope and promise and this starts here in Sunset Hills. The best way to do that is to lay the foundation of success now so that our children can build their dreams upon it. That’s why I’m running for mayor: to lay the groundwork of success for them here and now, while preserving the aesthetics of our bedroom community that our senior residents love. Today’s children will be tomorrow’s seniors in Sunset Hills.”
Lieber is campaigning on the premise of more local government control by residents and greater access to city decision-making. She has highlighted accountability and transparency as core pillars of her platform as she runs against her incumbent opponent.
“I have a different approach to leadership than what we’re seeing from the current mayor’s office. My highest priorities are teamwork and accountability, and I’m honored to be endorsed by six of the eight current aldermen and Rep. Gregory. I will encourage greater input from our
residents and do away with political scorekeeping. Our community deserves tangible results—a healthier city budget, stronger zoning practices, more transparent management—and less of ‘business as usual.’ A vote for me is a vote to change the status quo of Sunset Hills for the better for our future.”
The municipal election of Sunset Hills will take place April 5, 2022.
