Centene-subsidiary donates van to children’s shoe charity

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – Monday, Shoes from the Heart, a children’s shoe charity, will unveil a new van donated by Home State Health, a wholly-owned Centene Corporation subsidiary.

Shoes from the Heart was started in 2012 in Macon, where Donnie and Cindy Bonuchi partnered with two Sunday school classes to gather donations of children’s shoes. Since starting, they have helped over 28,000 children. Around 30,000 shoes were donated last year throughout 70 counties in Missouri.

“We have been blessed to have the support of Home State Health helping us on our journey to provide new shoes to children,” said Donnie Bonuchi, founder of Shoes from the Heart. The group reports many children receive their first pair of shoes from the organization.

Home State donated the van in December, allowing Shoes from the Heart to continue it’s mission of providing shoes throughout Missouri.

“Home State Health salutes Shoes from the Heart for all the great work they are doing in the state of Missouri,” said Nathan Landsaum, President and CEO of Home State Health. “We believe we have a responsibility to remove barriers and make it easier for people to access vital resources and services while strengthen our communities.”

Home State Health was established to deliver healthcare locally in Missouri and is an Office of Administration contractor for all regions of Missouri.

North Missouri legislators attended the unveiling Monday afternoon.
