Dean VanSchoiack announces candidacy for state representative of Buchanan, Andrew counties

Family farmer and entrepreneur Dean VanSchoiack has announced his candidacy for State Representative of House District 9, comprised of Andrew County and Northeastern Buchanan County. The seat is currently held by Sheila Solon, who is term-limited and cannot run again.

“I have been a conservative all my life,” said Dean. “I believe in protecting our constitutional rights and our rural way of life. My aim is to help keep government accountable and to be a voice for our rural communities and rural values.”

Dean grew up working on his family farm, which he still owns and operates today alongside his son. He continued to own and operate the farm after graduating from Savannah High School in 1977 and the University of Missouri in 1981. Dean went on to attain his real estate broker license and to attend the Missouri Auction School. He founded VanSchoiack Realty & Auction in 1984, and has owned it continuously to date as a sole proprietor.

“As an entrepreneur and farmer, I have witnessed how intrusive, unaccountable government can make life harder for the everyday Missourian. Too often, government does not respond to the needs of the people, and instead imposes obstacles in their daily life. I have seen a need for people with my experience; people who have lived and worked on the farm and who know the struggle of starting a business. This insight will help make sure our government focuses on job creation and business growth.

In addition to his occupation, Dean remains heavily involved in the community. Both he and his wife are elected officials to the Andrew County Republican Central Committee. He also teaches public speaking skills to local 4-H groups. He is a member of the Savannah Area Chamber of Commerce, Missouri Cattlemen’s Association, National Cattlemen’s Beef Association, National Rifle Association (Patriot Endowment Life Member), and the US Concealed Carry Association.

Dean is also involved in a number of professional associations, including the Missouri Association of Realtors, National Association of Realtors, St. Joseph Chapter of Kansas City Regional Association of Realtors, Missouri Professional Auctioneers Association, and the National Auctioneers Association.

Dean has stated his priorities of looking out for the rural communities, “I think it is important to promote good public education, especially in our rural districts. Every student should have the opportunity of a world class education here in Missouri. We also must have adequate funding to repair and replace highways so that we can provide quality transportation routes throughout the state. In doing so, we must not over-burden our counties and cities with the responsibilities of the state to maintain these roads. Finally, I aim to protect rural values, including standing up for the unborn and protecting our gun rights.”

Dean and his wife of 32 years, MaryAnn, have two children, Rachel LaVo and Andrew VanSchoiack, and are proud grandparents to Rachel’s two children and Andrew’s two children. Dean and MaryAnn attend Savannah United Methodist Church, where Dean volunteers in a number of ministries, including as Lay Servant Speaker.

Along with spending time with his family and working on the family farm, Dean enjoys shooting for fun, hunting and fishing. He also enjoys auctions, both as an auctioneer and as a buyer and spectator.

Dean VanSchoiack has retained Axiom Strategies to serve as consultants on his campaign.
