Greitens campaign circulates petition to support governor’s special session

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – Ahead of House committee testimony on abortion bills for the second special session, Gov. Eric Greitens’ campaign committee sent out a petition asking supporters to sign an unofficial petition to “stand for life.”

Greitens says in the email that he called the special session because “women’s lives and women’s health is at stake,” adding that “radical liberals” wanted to force controversial pregnancy care centers to hire women who do not necessarily believe in the anti-abortion mission of these facilities. Greitens, like many anti-abortion Republicans, is criticizing a St. Louis ordinance that would add reproductive health choices to St. Louis’ anti-discrimination statute.

“This is an assault on the culture of life in Missouri,” Greitens proclaims. “Pregnancy care centers are non-profits that take care of pregnant women, new moms, and kids. They provide medical care, counseling, and housing, and even help women find jobs. They work with women who are survivors of domestic violence and women who find themselves homeless. They show them love, care, and give them real resources to start their family right.

“They do it all because they value life.”

The email comes directly from Greitens campaign committee, and not the political nonprofit that supports him, A New Missouri Inc.
