Greitens taps Comer to head Dept. of Natural Resources

Gov. Eric Greitens announced Carol Comer will direct the Missouri Department of Natural Resources in a social media posting Wednesday. Comer served last as the commissioner of Indiana’s Department of Environmental Management (IDEM) since 2015 under Vice President-elect Mike Pence.

“Carol is incredible, and we are so excited about having her on board,” Greitens said in the video. “In Indiana, they made it easier for businesses to get permits, they improved their air quality, they protected their fish and wildlife all while encouraging job growth. She’s going to be an incredible champion both for the environment and the economy.”

Comer had a long career in environmental law before joining the IDEM in 2013, acting first as general counsel for the body then as chief of staff before finally becoming its commissioner. Politico initially named her as a potential administrator for the Environmental Protection Agency in the Trump administration.
