House Republicans select Vescovo as Speaker-elect for 101th General Assembly

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. — Republicans in the Missouri House have unanimously chosen Rep. Rob Vescovo to serve as speaker for the 101th General Assembly. When the legislators convene in 2021 for the regular session, the lower chamber will have the opportunity to officially elect him as Speaker of the House.

Vescovo will continue to serve as majority floor leader through 2020 — he will also take up the mantle of Speaker designee.

“This is both an incredible honor and an enormous responsibility, and I’m excited to take on the challenge of leading this caucus that has accomplished amazing things, but is capable of doing even bigger and better things to improve our state,” Vescovo said in a statement. “I’m excited to work for and with my colleagues in the House as we address the issues that matter to their districts, and look for creative and effective policy solutions that will make Missouri an even better place to live, work, and raise a family.”

First elected to the House in 2014 — and re-elected in 2016 and 2018 — Vescovo represents the 112th legislative district, which is comprised of Jefferson County. He was first elected to the position of majority floor leader in Nov. 2017.
