Missouri Right to Life and pro-life Missourians across the State of Missouri are not surprised that Planned Parenthood seeks, once again, to divert responsibility of care for abortion complications.
On Monday, October 30, Planned Parenthood filed another lawsuit requesting the court’s intervention to allow them to bypass common sense health and safety regulations. A provision of law found in SB 5 simply says that an abortion facility must have a complication plan on file with the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services (DHSS).
DHSS issued the complication plan regulations on October 24, the day SB 5 took effect. The regulations require that either the doctor providing the abortion services or another obstetrician-gynecologist in the area be available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, to personally treat any woman experiencing complications.
Some complications from RU-486 can include: abdominal pain (cramping), nausea, headache, vomiting, diarrhea, dizziness, fatigue, back pain, uterine hemorrhage (heavy bleeding), fever, viral infections, vaginitis, and rigors (chills/shaking).Danco Laboratories, the manufacturer of RU-486 in the U.S., provides a warning to health care providers who prescribe the drug: “Providers offering Mifeprex, should be aware that, as with other types of abortions, cases of serious bacterial infection, including very rare cases of fatal septic shock, have been reported following the use of Mifeprex.”
This latest lawsuit by Planned Parenthood clearly points out that Planned Parenthood does not want to be accountable for any emergency that arises after a women walks through their doors for an abortion.
We know Attorney General Josh Hawley and his staff will defend the common sense health and safety regulations found in SB 5. We pray that the courts rule in favor of SB 5’s protection clause for women.
Having an emergency plan in place is simple: just file the paperwork. Be responsible!
