NARAL Missouri and NARAL Virginia Leaders Slam Anti-Choice Extremists Gillespie and Greitens

“This Partnership Is A Dangerous Preview Of What Virginia Could Look Like if Ed Gillespie Becomes Governor”

“Greitens and Gillespie Don’t Trust Women”

As Missouri Gov. Eric Greitens heads to Virginia to campaign for fellow anti-choice Republican Ed Gillespie, the leaders of NARAL Pro-Choice Missouri and NARAL Pro-Choice Virginia highlighted what the partnership means for women and families in Virginia:

“This partnership is a dangerous preview of what Virginia could look like if Ed Gillespie becomes governor,” said Alison Dreith, executive director of NARAL Pro-Choice Missouri. “The people of Virginia should know that, in my home state of Missouri, Gov. Greitens has used his public office to push his narrow ideological beliefs on women and our families. In just his first few months in office,  he has pushed to further restrict women’s access to abortion, attacked anti-discrimination protections for women and families, and called an extraordinary special session of the state legislature to ram through his anti-choice agenda. In the process, he carelessly wasted taxpayer dollars while using his office to repeatedly cozy up to Donald Trump and lay the groundwork for his own political ambition. It seems that Gov. Greitens has found his kindred spirit in Ed Gillespie, a man who has called for abortion to be banned and who seems more concerned with his own political career than with the health and wellbeing of women and our families.”

“It’s clear that Greitens and Gillespie don’t trust women to make their own personal medical decisions which couldn’t be more out-of-touch with the priorities of hardworking Virginia families,” said Tarina Keene, executive director of NARAL Pro-Choice Virginia. “The fact is that 7 in 10 Americans want abortion to remain legal and accessible. Out-of-touch politicians like Gov. Greitens and Ed Gillespie have no place telling women if, when, and how to grow their families. That’s why NARAL Virginia  members have proudly stood with Dr. Ralph Northam as he fights to ensure that women and our rights are respected across the Commonwealth.”
