Now Hiring: Government Relations

The Missouri Bar, a statewide non-profit legal organization, seeks to fill a vacancy in its government relations department. The ideal candidate will have significant prior experience working on legislation, a thorough understanding of the legislative process, and an ability to relate respectfully to persons of all perspectives and backgrounds. This position involves working with committees that propose legislation, organizing lobbying activity on proposals approved by the Board of Governors, and making recommendations as to whether legislation is within the bar’s legislative scope and what position, if any, the bar should take.

Responsibilities include drafting the bar’s published position statements and communicating them to the legislature, organizing multiple events to connect members of the Board of Governors with elected officials, coordinating a Legislative Day at the state capitol and visits to Washington, D.C., as well as overseeing staff and related publications.

Willingness to work long hours and adapt to changing schedules is key, as well as being highly organized, exhibiting sound judgement and decision-making ability, and possessing excellent verbal and written communication skills. A reputation for trustworthiness, credibility and loyalty is a must. Previous involvement in bar activities is helpful.
