Presnell withdraws from race for term-limited Cross’ seat

LEE’S SUMMIT, Mo. — The Missouri House race for term-limited Rep. Gary Cross’ seat just got a little less crowded. Jordan Presnell, a Democrat, has decided to drop out of the race.

“I have learned a lot about the political process and hope that one-day campaigning becomes more about an individual’s personal convictions and qualifications and less about fundraising and political party cheerleading,” the Iraq War veteran said. “We live in a world where people feel they need to clamor to identity politics and ignore reason and logic.”

Presnell currently works as a senior software engineer for Transit Pros writing advanced algorithms and data structures.

With Presnell pulling out, that leaves Keri Ingle without a challenger for the Democratic nomination for House District 35 — which encompasses parts of Kansas City and Raytown. Sean Smith and Tom Lovell are still facing-off for the Republican ticket.

“I stay fully committed to electing a responsible and committed representative in my district and will be pouring my support behind Keri Ingle,” Presnell said.

The filing filing deadline is March 27, which means there is still time for another candidate to through their hat in the race. The primary will take place on Aug. 7 with the general election on Nov. 6.
