Romine launches re-election campaign

STE. GENEVIEVE, Mo. – Sen. Gary Romine (R-Ste. Genevieve) was joined Tuesday evening by colleagues and local supporters at the Weingarten Vineyards to kick off his re-election campaign.

Rep. Kevin Engler (R-Farmington) emcee-ed the event, while Sen. Eric Schmitt (R-Glendale), Sen. Will Kraus (R-Lee’s Summit, Rep. Elaine Gannon (R-DeSoto), and Rep. Paul Fitzwater (R-Potosi) were on hand to lend their support.

“There are 197 legislators in the General Assembly and around 150 bills that were Truly Agreed and Finally Passed,” Romine told guests. “And even with the events that occurred at the end of session, we were able to get six of our issues across the line. Our biggest bill was SB 142, which requires DNR to do an implementation impact report for the legislature to review before and implementation plan is sent to the EPA.”

Romine’s colleagues continued the message of opposing government overreach and taking small business values to the Capitol.

“It’s great that Gary is a small businessman,” Kraus told attendees. “And let me tell you, we need more businessmen in the General Assembly. He has used that experience to lead the fight on business issues and smaller government. This includes the fight against federal overreach at the EPA.”

Romine owns Southeast Missouri rental chain Show-Me Rent-to-Own and also sits on a local bank board.

“It is a pleasure to serve with a hard-working Senator like Gary Romine who is interested in getting things done,” said Schmitt. “When things get bogged down as they often do in the Missouri Senate, Gary is there working to bring the parties together.”

Over 100 people attended. The event focused on local donors and raised over $21,000. Romine had $86,951.52 on hand at April filing.
