This Week in the Governor’s Office: Week of November 27, 2017

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – This week, Governor Eric Greitens continued his push toward ousting the commissioner of the State Board of Education, eventually succeeding with a 5-3 vote from the Board on Friday.

Following the announcement of Claudia Onate Griem’s resignation from the board, Gov. Greitens appointed Eric Teeman to replace her, putting another vote in place to secure the necessary five votes for a majority.

But the Governor was also named as a defendant in a lawsuit put forward by one of the board members he had previously withdrawn. That case is still pending in court, with the next hearing scheduled for Dec. 15.

Earlier in the week, the Governor hosted another Facebook Live Q&A, answering questions ranging from education, jobs, unemployment, and taxes.

With the prefiling of bills by the legislature kicking off on Dec. 1, the Governor issued the following release:

Today, work began on a strong conservative agenda, including several of the Governor’s key priorities, such as greater protections for Missouri’s foster kids, tax reform for working families, and support for law enforcement, firefighters, first responders, and veterans.

Today is the first day on which legislators are allowed to pre-file legislation. The 2018 legislative session begins on January 3rd.

“We’re going to get even more results for Missouri families this year,” said Governor Greitens. “We’re protecting Missouri’s kids in foster care. We’re supporting our law enforcement and military families. We’re taking on special interest carve-outs in the tax code to put more money back in the pockets of working families. I’m proud to know that legislators are standing with us to push this bold agenda for Missouri families.”

On Friday, the Governor and First Lady played host to the visitors in the Governor’s Mansion, with the annual lighting of the Christmas tree taking place Friday evening. Annual candlelight tours at the Missouri Governor’s Mansion are planned from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Dec. 1 and from 10 a.m. to noon on Dec. 2. The free tours showcase decorations in several rooms of the residence.
