US Fish and Wildlife Service reopens public comment period on proposal to list 2 Missouri crayfishes as threatened under the Endangered Species Act

Today, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service reopened a public comment period on a proposed rule to list two species of Missouri crayfish, the Big Creek and St. Francis River crayfish, as threatened under the Endangered Species Act.

The proposed rule originally published in the Federal Register on September 17, 2020. Reopening the comment period allows the agency to host a virtual public information session and an associated public hearing on this matter.

Both events will take place on May 13, 2021. The Service will hold the virtual public information session from 6:00 p.m. to 7:15 p.m., Central Time. The agency will hold the virtual public hearing from 7:30 p.m. to 9 p.m., Central Time.

The public hearing will provide an opportunity for interested parties to present verbal testimony (formal, oral comments) regarding the proposed rule. Previously submitted comments will be fully considered and do not need to be resubmitted.

The agency is hosting both events on the Zoom online video platform and via teleconference so participants can attend remotely. The public must register to participate in the events. For information on how to register, or if you encounter problems joining Zoom on the day of the meeting, visit https://www.fws.gov/midwest/endangered/index.html.

The reopening of the 30-day public comment period will publish in the Federal Register on April 27, 2021. The Service will consider comments from all interested parties received by May 26, 2021. Information on how to submit comments is available at www.regulations.gov by searching under docket number FWS‒R3‒ES‒2019‒0020.
