Parson racks up campaign support across state

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – Sen. Mike Parson has started his first summer as a gubernatorial candidate building upon early momentum from key endorsements, early fundraising success, and legislative recognition.

Sens. Gary Romine (R-Farmington), Doug Libla (R-Poplar Bluff), and Wayne Wallingford (R-Cape Girardeau) announced their endorsement of Parson’s campaign for governor to local supporters at the Common Pleas Courthouse in Cape Girardeau this morning.

The event comes on the heels of endorsements from Sen. Dan Brown (R-Rolla), the Senate handler of Right to Work, and Rep. Sandy Crawford (R-Buffalo), former House Republican Majority Whip.

Less than 2 weeks after the campaign’s launch, former U.S. Senator Jack Danforth, a former supporter of Tom Schweich for governor, donated to Parson – a donation that’s name speaks louder than the amount. Parson has continued to receive large donations since Danforth’s early donation and is expected to be a formidable fundraiser due to key allies and supporters across a variety of industries in what is sure to be an expensive primary and general election.

After announcing his campaign on April 30, Parson traveled to Southeast Missouri, where he held events with Wallingford in Cape Girardeau and Libla in Poplar Bluff.

Parson’s campaign has proven to waste no time, holding and attending events across the state. An event was held for Parson in Pettis County recently and the candidate has been spotted at numerous local Republican and organizational events since his campaign launched.

LEGISLATIVE RECOGNITION

The candidate was also honored by the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) late last week at the VFW convention as the Legislator of the Year. Parson is an army veteran.

“I am humbled to be named the Legislator of the Year by Veterans of Foreign Wars Missouri,” Parson wrote. “I served in the Army for six years, and during my time in the service I gained an appreciation for how important our Armed Forces are to our nation. Our veterans have done so much to protect our freedoms and make America the beacon of liberty we are today. This is why I have made it a personal priority to pass legislation that recognizes the work done by these brave individuals and ensures that our state continues to stand behind them.”

Parson also received the Legislator of the Year award in February from the Missouri Federation of Pachyderms at the Annual Reagan Lincoln Days, a statewide Republican convention.
