Englund shifts to House campaign, announces kickoff event

Saint Louis, Mo. — Former House member Vicki Englund is looking to return to the chamber after the 2016 elections, and has formally announced that she’ll once again be seeking to represent the 94th district as a Democrat.

Englund was originally slated to seek a senate seat as the successor to state senator Scott Sifton. But when Sifton announced late last week that he would remain in the senate and forgo a bid for Attorney General, Englund was left with an important decision. She could challenge Sifton in a primary, a challenge she was unlikely to win, she could forgo politics for the 2016 cycle altogether, or she could once again look to represent her local district in the lower chamber.

Englund, who also reported a $5,001 contribution from Democratic donor, Barry Aycock, chose to remain in the game as a House candidate, a move she likens to being a team player.

“Even though we as candidates each run individually for our offices, we need to remember that politics is a team sport,” Englund said in a statement. “And politics done well, makes a winning team…How can we expect to truly represent Democratic principles if we can’t work together, and make it across the finish line, together. As you may have heard, Senator Sifton has decided to run for reelection to his Senate seat. So today I announce my campaign for re-election to Missouri’s 94th House District. There is no heavy heart, there is no feeling of disappointment, and no doubt in this announcement. We need strong voices in South County – the stakes are way too high this time.”

Englund has plenty of local name ID to be sure. After winning her first term Englund was unseated during the Republican wave of 2010 before taking the seat back for herself again in 2012. In 2014, she lost a close race for the seat in another strong Republican year. Englund is a two-term member of the Lindbergh School Board going in to her 5th election, and she’s kicking off her campaign this Thursday at Firehouse Bar and Grill on Lemay Ferry Road.
