Speaker Richardson endorses Rubio for president

JEFFERSON CITY , Mo. – Speaker Todd Richardson announced Tuesday he will chair Florida Sen. Marco Rubio’s presidential campaign in Missouri.

“Too many politicians and their ideas expired in the 20th century, which is why Washington is broken and why I support Marco Rubio for President,” he said in a statement. “Marco’s plan for a New American Century is built around ideas for tomorrow, instead of the same policies of yesterday. I look forward to leading Marco’s team in Missouri.”

As Speaker of the House, Richardson is one of the highest Republican officeholders in the state and will look to provide Rubio with the state as he heads into the Missouri primary on March 15, 2016. Key states like Florida, Ohio, Illinois and North Carolina will also be holding their primaries that day as well.

Missouri may also have a divided electorate at the Republican National Convention after changes were made to the way delegates will be divided. If Missouri Republicans vote for one candidate by more than 50 percent, then all 52 of Missouri’s delegates will go to that candidate. However, if no candidate gets a majority, delegates will be split proportionately amongst the candidates via congressional districts.

According to Public Policy Polling, Rubio is currently in third place in a national poll behind only businessman Donald Trump and neurosurgeon Ben Carson.
