ST. LOUIS – St. Louis City Treasurer Tishaura Jones has endorsed Jake Zimmerman for attorney general, stating that “he is a proven advocate for fairness.”

Zimmerman, St. Louis County assessor, former state representative, and former assistant attorney general, is in a two-way Democratic primary currently with former Cass County prosecutor Teresa Hensley.

Jones served with Zimmerman previously in the state house, but she cites in a statement Zimmerman’s experience as an assessor as the experience needed.

Running an executive government office is a unique and challenging job. When problems arise, there is nowhere to pass the buck. But in that ownership of the office the right leader can make great changes. Over the past four years Jake has managed his office of 150 employees and $12 million budget effectively to fight for fairness on behalf of taxpayers.

I am encouraged that we have begun to have long needed, overdue conversations about race and equity in our communities.  Everyone deserves equal justice under the law. Everyone deserves a fair shot. Having served in the Missouri House with Jake, I know that these are the values he practices everyday.

Executive experience matters. We need someone ready to take on these challenges from day one. I am confident that between Jake’s experience as an Assistant Attorney General, legislator and as a countywide executive officeholder he is uniquely qualified to get right to work for all Missourians.

Current Attorney General Chris Koster is presumed to be the Democratic nominee for governor, leaving the seat open. State Sen. Kurt Schaefer, R-Columbia, and University of Missouri law professor Josh Hawley are running in the Republican primary.
