Congressman Smith hires new district-based chief of staff

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – Congressman Jason Smith, R-Missouri, chose Eric Bohl to become his new district-based chief of staff Friday. Bohl will work from Cape Girardeau instead of Washington D.C.

While nearly 85 percent of all chiefs of staff for congresspeople work in Washington D.C., Smith believed a chief of staff would have greater impact for the citizens if they stayed in their district.

“It is extremely important to me to have a chief of staff based in Missouri,” Smith said in a statement, adding that Bohl was a great addition to his team.

“Eric is exceptionally qualified to help provide valuable services and resources to the residents of Southeast and South-central Missouri,” he continued. “A Missouri native, he has strong family ties in the Cape Girardeau and Sikeston areas and shares my rural, conservative values. Eric’s experience practicing law at The Limbaugh Law Firm and navigating an often confusing federal agency process have equipped him to be a strong advocate for our families and communities.”

Bohl, a four-year chief of staff for Congresswoman Vicky Hartzler, also said he was glad to be picked up by Smith.

“It is an honor to join Team Smith,” he said. “I have watched and appreciated Congressman Smith’s tireless work ethic, leadership, and dedication to his district since coming to Congress. When he sets his mind to something, it gets done, and that’s invaluable to the folks of this congressional district. I am excited for the opportunity to serve the people and area I love, and I look forward to moving closer to our family in Sikeston.”
