KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Sen. Jason Holsman, D-Kansas City, took to social media Monday to call for this next legislative session to focus on the environment in light of the flooding.
Holsman wrote:
“On 4th of July the water level at Lake Ozark topped 660 feet to flood the entire area. The experts said this was a historic rain and shouldnt be a consistent issue. This picture was taken this morning on Dec 28th. Less than 5 months later in the middle of winter the level hits a new high of 663.5. What more evidence do we need that it is time to get serious about addressing climate change and extreme weather?
“This session should be dedicated to working with all stakeholders to reduce our carbon emissions, increase energy efficiency and chart a strategy for a clean energy future. Its not too late, but the clock is ticking.”
Holsman has pre-filed bills with consideration towards improving and developing alternative energy, particularly solar. The senator has also pre-filed bills addressing ethics and medical marijuana.
