Breckenridge appointed to national judicial task force

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – The Missouri Supreme Court’s chief justice has been appointed to a national task force to investigate court fees.

Chief Justice Patricia Breckenridge was chosen by members of the Conference of Chief Justices and the Conference of State Court Administrators to the National Task Force on Fines, Fees and Bail Practices, which is designed to address the problems those actions leverage on communities, especially more disadvantaged communities

The task force will attempt to draft model statutes, rules and policies, suggest practices for setting, processing and codifying the collection of fines and fees and bail/bonds, and review and revise suggested guidelines for qualifications and oversight of judges in courts created by local governments or traffic courts. As well as with other responsibilities.

The task force will be co-chaired by Ohio Chief Justice Maureen O’Connor and Kentucky State Court Administrator Laurie K. Dudgeon, and is comprised of legal leaders, judges, lawyers and advocates from around the nation.
