MAF calls on House to pass SJR39

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – Missouri Alliance for Freedom (MAF) President Ryan Johnson released a statement Monday expressing support for SJR 39, saying he hopes to see it on the statewide ballot for Missourians to vote on this fall. The resolution will be heard before the House Emerging Issues Committee, chaired by Rep. Elijah Haahr, R-Springfield, Tuesday.

“It has been one month since the Senate passed SRJ39 after enduring a historic 40-hour filibuster. Since that time, there has been much hyperbole and misinformation from the left and their big business cronies. We urge House Leadership to move quickly to pass SJR39” said Johnson.

Johnson called Senator Bob Onder, sponsor of the proposed amendment, Haahr, and Committee Member Rep. Paul Curtman, R-Pacific, conservative rising stars. The release stated Haahr “is expected to help move the resolution through the process.”

“Missourians overwhelmingly believe citizens should not be forced by the government to violate their deeply-held religious beliefs which are protected by our Constitution,” Johnson said. “The government should not be able to force clergy, citizens or business owners to take action against their religious beliefs. Our proposal gives Missouri voters the opportunity to strengthen basic religious liberty protections to shield Missourians from this government overreach.”

Last week, 17 business leaders came together writing Haahr in support of amending the resolution.

MAF burst onto the scene in 2015, supporting conservative causes as an “action oriented conservative policy advocacy and legislative accountability group” focusing on limited government and individual liberty. The group’s motto is “trust but verify,” a phrase used by late President Ronald Reagan extensively throughout the ending of the Cold War, yet also learned from the Russians.
