Naloxone bill sent to Nixon

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – Final approval was given Tuesday to HB1568, sponsored by Rep. Steve Lynch, R-Waynesville.

The bill seeks to provide support for and save lives of heroin and overdose victims by allowing pharmacists to dispense Naloxone, an antidote for heroin overdoses, directly to individuals.

Lynch has made the bill a priority during his tenure, advocating for overdose victims and previously sponsoring legislation which put Naloxone into the hands of qualified first responders. He hopes this bill will allow family and friends to easily get the medicine for a loved one who has overdosed.

“By passing this bill into law we will put a safe, non-addictive antidote in the hands of people who can use it to save the lives of those they love. We have already seen this policy change dramatically reduce the rate of opiate-related deaths in other states, and I am confident we will see the same positive results here in Missouri,” said Lynch. “I want to thank my colleagues for supporting this effort that will save lives.”

HB1568 was approved 147-2 and now heads to the governor’s desk to be signed into law.
