Humphreys donates $250,000 to Kinder campaign

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – David and Debra Humphreys appear to have gone all in for Lt. Gov. Peter Kinder in his bid to move up a rank.

The Missourians for Peter Kinder campaign received a $250,000 donation from the Southwest Missouri millionaires and political activists. Sources surrounding the donor say Humphreys believes Kinder has the best chance to win a general election against Democratic nominee Attorney General Chris Koster.

The sources also noted that this occurred months after a thaw in the relationship between Kinder and the Humphreys which had become chilly when the Humphreys donated nearly $1 million total to Brad Lager, who attempted to beat Kinder in the primary for lieutenant governor in 2012. David Humphreys also famously asked for a refund of his donations to Kinder’s abandoned gubernatorial campaign of 2011.

Even though he trailed in fundraising (reporting just over $624,000 in cash on hand in April), Kinder has been the presumptive favorite for the nomination in Missouri political circles on sheer name identification.

The Kinder campaign could not be reached for comment.
