Department of Economic Development names recipients of energy loan program

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. — The Division of Energy within the Department of Economic Development (DED) announced Thursday the 11 recipients of award for their 2017 energy loan program.

Four public school systems, five municipal governments, one community college and one hospital will receive loans totaling roughly $3 million to make improvements to their facilities aimed at lowering energy costs.

“The Energy Loan Program makes green technologies available to our schools, hospitals and government buildings,” said DED Director Mike Downing in a statement. “It allows the applicants to retain capital for other projects, saving taxpayers money while helping to create local jobs, hence stimulating Missouri’s economy.”

The department estimates the projects will reduce energy use by nearly 1 million kWh and avoid almost 5,000 metric tons of carbon dioxide pollution.

The recipients are the Belleview, Bernie, Bloomfield and Pattonsburg School Districts; the cities of Monett, Slater, St. Clair, St. Louis and Ste. Genevieve; Ste. Genevieve County Memorial Hospital and Metropolitain Community College in Jackson County.
