TWMP: Bruce Franks, the presidential debate and Koster’s lead

Sunday on This Week in Missouri Politics, host Scott Faughn sits down with Bruce Franks, the Democratic nominee for the 78th House District, to discuss his win over Rep. Penny Hubbard in a contested primary. He discussed his desire to represent the community, the controversy and court battle surrounding a special election, and how to solve possible election fraud and mismanagement. Franks also discusses his plans for education funding, police reform, and other things he wants to accomplish in Jefferson City.

“I want to change things. People say, don’t go down there think you’re going to change the world overnight. Why not hope? Why not be optimistic?” Franks said.

On the opinion maker panel, Missouri Democratic Party Executive Director Crystal Brinkley, Republican political strategist David Barklage, and Jeff Rainford from Rainford and Associates and former Rep. Ron Hicks discuss who won the presidential debate. They contentiously discuss the performance of each candidate and the fact that Hillary Clinton seems to lose support to third-party candidates.

“What should be disturbing for Clinton is a majority of undecideds are undecided Trump, not undecided Hillary,” Barklage said.

On the state level, they discuss Attorney General Chris Koster’s continued rise in Missouri Times polls, when Eric Greitens will begin his surge, and what Koster’s candidacy says about Democrats off of I-70.

“I grew up in Milan, Missouri in Sullivan County and Chris Koster is speaking to that demographic,” Brinkley said. “I think he’s given hope that there is a Democratic Party in rural Missouri.”
