Samuel Diehl funeral arrangements released

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – The Diehl family released funeral plans for their son Samuel, who passed away suddenly at flight school last week.

Second Lieutenant Samuel A. Diehl died unexpectedly while attending Flight School in Alabama. His body will be escorted back to St. Louis by Captain Raymond Wagner III, the son of U.S. Rep. Ann Wagner who recently graduated from Ranger School, and returned to the Diehl family on Wednesday.

Diehl was the son of former House Speaker John Diehl.

The visitation will take place Thursday from 3:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Our Lady of the Pillar Church in Creve Coeur. The funeral mass will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday morning, also at Our Lady of the Pillar Church.

The church’s address is 401 S. Lindbergh Blvd, Creve Coeur, MO 63131.

Immediately following the mass, interment will take place at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery. Following that service, the Diehl family invites friends and family to their home to celebrate Sam’s life and legacy.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks contributions be made to the Second Lieutenant Samuel A Diehl Memorial Scholarship Fund (c/o Chaminade College Preparatory School. 425 S. Lindbergh Blvd, St. Louis, Mo. 63131) or to the St. Louis Military Officers Foundation (www.buildwarriors.org).

“Sam loved both of these institutions and would be honored to have them supported,” the Speaker said.
