TWMP: Trump, Greitens and the future of the Democratic Party

On the next episode of This Week in Missouri Politics, host Scott Faughn welcomes a full panel to the show with Lathrop and Gage attorney David Sweeney, attorney and longtime friend of the show Jane Dueker, Republican strategist David Barklage and Jefferson County Executive Ken Waller to discuss Trump’s first moves as president-elect, including his charge on the Carrier deal and whether or not his attitude on social media matters.

“A president that doesn’t have to care about popular opinion nor has to care about Congress is indeed a very powerful man,” Barklage says.

They also discuss the future of state Democratic leadership in the wake of the Nov. 8 election, whether or not it should become more progressive or moderate to attain new voters, and Gov.-elect Eric Greitens likelihood of a strong first year.

“He’s a fellow city resident. How can I not be excited about that?” Sweeney says. “He’s going to come in and get some legislation through that the governor has been vetoing, and it’s pretty clear it’s going to get out there.”
