TWMP: Jay Ashcroft, Trump and Christmas

On a holiday edition of This Week in Missouri Politics, host Scott Faughn welcomes Secretary of State-elect Jay Ashcroft to discuss his transition into the role, his plans for the office and what the results of the election showed.

“This is an election where the people stood up and said, ‘We’re tired of government officials and politicians saying one thing and doing another,'” Ashcroft said.

They also talk about the high number of initiative petitions being filed under Secretary of State Jason Kander, the differences between the prospect of a conservative SOS after years of a liberal Democrat holding the office, as well as what an Ashcroft family Christmas looks like and what he’s thankful about for Christmas.

On the opinion-maker panel, the NAACP’s John Gaskin III, DNC member Brian Wahby, Catalyst lobbyist and #Moleg Podcast co-host Becky Lohmann and former Sen. Jason Crowell, discuss the Electoral College, an outlook at Gov.-elect Eric Greitens’ first year in office, and President-elect Donald Trump’s transition into the White House.

“The president-elect is doing a fantastic job of maintaining the campaign,” Wahby says. “The job of running the country is a completely different job.”

“The vast majority of Missourians’ opinions is that we’re undoing eight years of devastation to not only this country, but this state,” Crowell said.

They also discuss the most impressive campaigns of the season, and their Christmas wishes.
