Nixon sets date for special election to fill vacant House seat

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – Gov. Jay Nixon announced Friday he would set a special election to fill the seat for the 50th district in the Missouri House of Representatives for Aug. 8, 2017. Rep. Caleb Jones resigned the seat earlier this week to serve as Gov.-elect Eric Greitens’ Deputy Cheif of Staff.

The 50th district comprises parts of Boone Cole and Moniteau Counties including Ashland, southern Columbia and California.

Republican organizer Sara Walsh has already announced her candidacy for the office.

An election has not been called in the 28th Senatorial District, vacated by Lt. Gov.-elect Mike Parson. Parson called for a special election to be set by the Governor earlier this week.
