TWMP: Mitten and the St. Louis mayoral showdown

On a special Lincoln Day weekend edition of This Week in Missouri Politics, Assistant Minority Floor Leader Gina Mitten joins host Scott Faughn talk about the Democratic caucus in Jefferson City, the debate over REAL ID, ethics, and her speciality: tort reform. Mitten has led the opposition on Republican efforts around tort reform measures like the Daubert expert witness standard and collateral source rule. Mitten talks about what she sees as the fault in the argument these measures are needed to boost the state’s economy.

“Missouri’s economic growth is not in jeopardy, certainly not compared to its surrounding states,” she said.

Then, it’s a miniature melee for mayor as campaign managers and spokespeople from the four major Democratic candidates for St. Louis’ mayoral election sit down with Faughn. Keith Willis of the Lewis Reed campaign, Anne Schweitzer with the Tishaura Jones campaign, Megan Shackelford with the Lyda Krewson campaign, and Ryan Hawkins with the Antonio French campaign all talk about what their candidates can bring to the mayoral office.

They also discuss whether the perceived divide between black and white St. Louis voters is a significant factor in the election, what the major issue will be that decides the election, the Democratic divide between progressives and moderates, and most importantly, how they will win.

This episode of TWMP will air at 11:00 a.m. in the St. Louis area on ABC 30 KDNL, in the Kansas City area on 38 the Spot at 10:00 a.m. and in mid-Missouri on KRCG at 6:00 a.m. on Sunday, February 19. The show is available online at 11:00 a.m. at twmp.tv.
