TWMP in Kansas City: The session so far, and will the Senate pass ethics reform?

On Sunday’s episode of This Week in Missouri Politics in Kansas City, host Scott Faughn welcomes a full half-hour opinion maker panel of Fred Dreiling, the principal of Fred Dreiling, LLC; Independence Mayor Eileen Weir; Travis Smith, the vice president of Axiom Strategies; and Rep. Dan Houx, R-Warrensburg.

They discuss the major pieces of legislation that have gone through the Capitol thus far this session, including right-to-work, and what Republicans will continue to do this session.

“It’s like Christmas morning. The Republican Senators are looking at the presents under the tree and the question is ‘DO we open one or two of them, or do we open the whole lot?” Smith said.

They also discuss the possibility of a full repeal of prevailing wage laws, changes to the Missouri Plan for court judges, and the lack of ethics reform coming out of the Senate.

“I think there is some animosity out there in the Senate when he’s called them crooked and corrupt when he has some money that hasn’t been accounted for, at least in the eyes of some people,” Dreiling said.

The panel also talks about the state’s budget situation, and which Republican might run against U.S. Sen. Claire McCaskill
