Koster’s office reviewing Kraus call for opinion on gun nullification

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo – Following Sen. Will Kraus’ request earlier this week that Attorney General Chris Koster submit an official opinion on the language contained in Senate Bill 613 and House Bill 1493, which call for the nullification of federal gun laws, the Attorney General’s office told The Missouri Times, that they are reviewing the request at this time.

Sen. Kraus spoke today about this year’s version of gun nullification being more constitutional.

“I’m am pretty confident he’ll (Koster) find this bill constitutional.”

As compared to last year’s bill calling for the nullification of federal gun laws, Kraus said that this bill is less severe in scope and reach. “He took the bill and made it easier on how it was enforced.. Sen. Nieves pacified the over-reach of last year’s bill and toned it down.”

When asked if he feels that Gov. Jay Nixon would veto the bill, Sen. Kraus said he “hadn’t given it much thought. I know our governor is pro second amendment, but hasn’t weighed in on it.”

As for other opponents of last year’s bill, Sen. Kraus said, “I have not yet sat down with any one who voted for the override”.
