Rep. Don Gosen resigns

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – Chesterfield Republican Rep. Don Gosen, chair of the Select Committee on Insurance, resigned his seat today.

“I’ve decided to resign from the Missouri House,” Gosen said in a statement to the Missouri Times. “With the current events going on at the Capitol, it’s time for me to focus on my family. I’ll have a more complete statement at a later date.”

There have been many rumors circulating the Capitol this week leading up to the resignation. There is a mandatory House Republican caucus meeting scheduled for 11:00 a.m.

Gosen has shown legislative success during his service, sponsoring many successful bills impacting the insurance, banking, and liquor industries.

So far, Gosen had three bill make it to the Senate for first read.

In addition to his chairmanship, Gosen also served on the Banking, Local Government, and Workforce Standards and Development committees. Gosen previously served as vice chairman of insurance before becoming chairman of the House Insurance Committee.

Gosen has been employed at State Farm Insurance for the past 20 years and is also co-owner of Tin Mill Brewing Company in Hermann, where he was born.

Rep. Gosen is a 1981 graduate of Hermann High School. He received his B.S. in Business Administration in 1985 and his M.B.A in 1989 from the University of Missouri – Columbia. Don was a member of the Sigma Chi Fraternity and a student assistant for the men’s basketball team while at Mizzou.

Gosen was in his third term in the House and had recently announced his intention to run for the office a fourth time.
