WARRENSBURG, Mo. – Today, Senator Claire McCaskill held an open student forum at Missouri State University, hosted by the MSU College Democrats, where she answered questions on a wide variety of topics including student debt, net neutrality, and money in politics.
“Speaking with Missouri students to find out what’s on their minds helps me be a better advocate for them in the Senate,” said McCaskill. “It was great to see such a large, engaged crowd. I’m proud that so many students are interested in participating in the political process and I appreciated them taking the time to show up and ask their questions.”
“The MSU College Democrats were so excited to welcome Claire to MSU today and to have the opportunity to share our concerns about the issues that matter to us as students,” said MSU College Dems President Jimmy Moore. “Claire is a hardworking public servant who has fought for students during her time in the Senate, and we can’t wait to continue supporting her during her re-election this year.”
Claire is a proud graduate of Missouri public schools, including Mizzou and Mizzou Law, and has advocated for students and issues that affect them during her time in the Senate. She was the 30th cosponsor of legislation to reverse the FCC’s decision to repeal net neutrality, has repeatedly voted to increase access to affordable student loans and grants, cosponsored legislation to allow borrowers to refinance their student loans like they can their house and car, and launched the first Congressional inquiry into how colleges and universities handle rapes and sexual assaults on campus. Claire is also the only candidate for U.S. Senate in Missouri that supports a Constitutional amendment to overturn Citizens United.
