Cathy Richards files for state Representative in the 46th District

COLUMBIA, Mo. —  This week Cathy Richards filed to run as a Republican to be the next State Representative from the 46th District.  Her district is in the heart of Columbia in Boone County.

“I’ve lived in the 46th district for over 21 years. I’ve raised my children here and now I spoil my grandchildren here.  I’m running for State Representative because I think the voters in our district deserve a real choice.  In the last decade, our district has failed to have effective representation in the Missouri House.  Failed to have a State Representative who can point to a single piece of legislation they filed and passed to help our community.  I want to not only be a voice for our community but to be an effective voice for our community in Jefferson City.  I want to roll-up my sleeves and actually get things accomplished.  If elected, on day one, I guarantee I will be more effective as a champion for our community then we have seen in at least the last 10 years.  Talk is cheap, action is required.”

Cathy Richards, who was previously elected as a Democrat, served eight years as the Boone County Public Administrator from 2008 through 2016 had this to say about why she chose to file as a Republican in this election: “I’ve chosen to run as a Republican because the Democratic Party has abandoned moderates like me. Unless you’re a radical or liberal activist, you need not apply to serve. Instead of retreating to the fringes or sitting back in silence, I’ve taken stock of my values and determined that I’m a moderate Republican. Hyper-partisan political games are exactly why nothing meaningful gets accomplished in government. It’s exactly why people have so little trust in their elected officials. I hope to bring a new voice to Jefferson City that can deliver when it matters most. I’ll be a staunch advocate for our schools, for our colleges and universities, and for our local businesses. I’m not an activist—I’m a public servant and I’m ready to roll up my sleeves, put aside partisan differences, and get to work for our community.”

Cathy is a lifelong Boone County resident.  She has been married to her husband, Michael for 21 years.  They have four wonderful children and seven beautiful grandchildren.  Cathy is a graduate of Columbia College, William Woods University, and Stephens College.  Cathy is a member of the Harrisburg Christian Church.
