Jeff Porter announces campaign for state representative of Montgomery, Warren, and St. Charles Counties

Local Insurance and Real Estate Agent and former mayor of Montgomery City, Jeff Porter, has announced his candidacy for representative of House District 42, comprised of Montgomery County and parts of Warren County and St. Charles County. The seat is currently held by Representative Bart Korman who is term limited and cannot seek reelection.

“After years of serving the people of this community, I am ready to step up as a leader and to represent my friends and neighbors as their representative. We need a voice in the capitol who understands the issues we face and who is willing to fight for our values. My experiences as a community leader have prepared me for the challenges of representing us,” Porter stated.

Porter, who has lived in Missouri all of his life, graduated from the University of Missouri–Columbia with a BS Degree in Agricultural Economics and Agronomy in 1984. In 1991 he became a State Farm Insurance Agent in Montgomery City and became a Real Estate Agent in 2003. He has also served as mayor of Montgomery City for over 15 years, trusted by the people of Montgomery to look out for them. Throughout his years of living in the district, Porter has cited his desire to help his neighbors through both his professional career and community service as his primary goal.

“For years, I have worked to help my fellow citizens in any way I can, be it through my role as an agent, mayor, or in my role as a neighbor. I have always put the needs of others first,” said Porter, “As the people’s representative, I will work to put the needs of my community before petty politics. I am not an opportunistic career politician; I am a local leader looking to make a difference.”

Porter also volunteers in a variety of local organizations. He has served as both the president of the Montgomery Kiwanis club and as the secretary for the local Chamber of Commerce. He is a former member on the Executive Board of Boonslick Regional Planning Council.

Porter lives with his wife, Julie, of 33 years. The couple has two adult children, Andy (29) and Molly (25), who both attended school in the Montgomery County R-II School system before leaving for college. Julie presently teaches at Montgomery City Elementary School. The couple attends Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Montgomery City. Porter is proud to be a Fourth Degree Sir Knight and a member of the Honor Guard for the Knights of Columbus Council #2044.

Porter’s legislative priorities include fighting for more investment in Missouri rural communities and to modernize vital sectors of the Missouri economy, including transportation, agriculture, education, and insurance.

“My wife and I raised our family in this community. I know firsthand just what rural Missouri has to offer,” he added.  “I know that the people here are strong and are motivated by faith and a desire to make a better living for themselves. I will make sure that we are not forgotten in Jefferson City, and that our government supports and invests in our rural communities.”
