Bob Boyer announces run for Roorda’s House seat in 2014

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo.  — As Rep. Jeff Roorda, D-Barnhart, prepares to run for the Senate, Republican Bob Boyer, former County Council chair for Jefferson County, announces his intentions to run for Roorda’s seat in the coming 2014 election.

In an interview with The Missouri Times, Boyer said the people of Jefferson County voted in a Republican majority in 2010 and, during his time as County Chair in 2012, the Council implemented “a simple, conservative model for government.”

“We’ve been entrusted by the people to run a conservative government and that’s exactly what we’ve done,” Boyer said. “I think even the moderate Democrats in the district will find they agree with me on most of the issues. And Republicans already know they can trust me.”

Boyer points to Roorda’s own issue profile as an indicator that he has a strong support in the community. Roorda is a self-described moderate Democrat who is both pro-life and pro-Second Amendment. Boyer shares these positions and is hoping that his background in the local arena of government will give him an advantage.

Boyer is in the process of disbanding his County Council election committee and establishing a fundraising committee for his state run, but has not finalized the details yet.

No candidate from the Democratic side has announced interest in the House spot.
